Around 110 delegates from across Europe and beyond attended the Europatat Congress in Edinburgh during 27th-29th May 2010. The congress which was organised by the BPTA was opened by Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment at the Scottish Government.
The Congress theme of ‘Potatoes without Frontiers’ was addressed by 7 speakers and during the Congress the Europatat General Assembly approved a new structure for Europatat and welcomed a new Secretary General, Frédéric Rosseneu from Belgium who succeeds Romain Cools.Further details about this can be found on the Europatat website: www.europatat.eu.
The bulk of the tonnage of seed potatoes traded in Great Britain for both the home and export markets is handled by the 120 members of the new Association. This gives the Association greater negotiating power on behalf of its members.
